TENNIS.

GISBORNE v. NAPIER

On Saturday afternoon, the tennis match between the Napier and Gisborne Clubs was played on the local Club's courts at Kfliiti. Gisborne scored a win by eight games. Three of the. Napier men were prevented from coming at the last moment, and only five were present to do battle for their club. It was de-cided to play only double matches, as the time was so short, and to permit Mr H. G. Watson to play for the visitors, each pair to play each pair of opponents two sets, the match to be decided by the greatest number of games wan. Gisborne won by 83 games to 75. It was a matter for regret that the match did not take place earlier in the season, when both sides would have been in better form, and the ground in a more playable condition. Messrs. Hawley and Lyttelton did good work for Gisbome, winning 32 games and losing 19. Messrs. Macfarlane and Balharry and Margoliouth and Tipping showed the best form for the winners. There was a large attendance of the public. Scores: —
