WANGANUI, this day. The heavy rains of yesterday and last night caused a considerable , fresh in the river, and the Upokongaro ferry, nine miles up the river, was washed out to sea. Otherwise little or no damage was done.

During the past fortnight 350 horses have been purchased between Pahnerston and New Plymouth by the stock inspectors for the Tenth Contingent, and several hundred by the- Imperial remount officers. A special train to-morrow night takes 150 horses for the Tenth Contingent to Wellington.
