WAIROA NOTES.

The directors of the Wairoa Dairy Company met on Friday, 20th, to report progress. It appears that under the new Act just passed a few alterations have to be made to the articles of association, the chief of which, is that all shareholders, whether milk suppliers or not, must pay the application money (2s 6d per share) m cash, and after that the directors can accept an agreement whereby the balance can be paid by a deduction each month of |d per 1b of butter-fat. Another particular point I arising out of the new Act is that a minimum of subscribed capital must be fixed before the directors can begin buildings. This was fixed at £2000. When the sum of £2000 has been taken up everything will be on a very solid basis. The directors have under consideration a list of bylaws which were submitted by the solicitors. A bank for Wairoa is an assured fact now. The Bank of New Zealand intend estabbshing a branch, here. They have engaged a building m Marine Parade, which is veiy central. Mr J. Cherry, of Napier, will most likely be m charge. Several Wairoa young ineu have volunteered for service m the Eighth Contingent, and all the returned troopers are offenug to go to South Africa again. Mr Miller, Stock Inspector, has been buying up all suitable remounts m this district for the contingent. A lot of good horses were rejected on account of being under the minimum age of five years. The prices ranged from £12 to £16. The Inspector succeeded m buying 14 suitable horses, and has sent them overland to Napier. At the last meeting of the Town Board a good deal of business was transacted, including the taking of initial steps to establish a double-pan system of nightsoil removal. The chimerical idea of a water supply and sewerage scheme was abandoned.— Own Correspondent.
