THE EIGHTH CONTINGENT.
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. It is understood that Colonel Davies accepted command of the Eighth Contingent at a conference with the Premier on Christmas Eve. Colonel Davies and the | Acting Commandant (Major Owen) have been entrusted with the selection of the 44 officers required, and (is both are now away from Wellington, and unlikely to return", till the beginning of the New Year, it is unlikely any announcement will be made for some days. 1
