The secretary of the General Post Office received the following telegram from the postmaster at Cheviot this morning: "8.40 a. m.—Additional shocks of earthquuke have been felt since last report. One ut about 10.35 last night was of an exceedingly severe nature, and has had a very alarming effect on the inhabitants. "The recurrence of these shocks has prevented I people from entering their dwellings, and last night women again slept m the open air. "It is impossible to estimate the damage here, but the investigations of representatives of the newspapers lead me to tho conclusion that many people are ruined, »iud that an enormous sum of money will be required to make good the losses. "9.30 a.m. —A tremendous shock occurred at 9 o'clock this morning, almost equal m force to the great shock of Saturday. Ruin has set m, and the people are preparing to leave."
