MURDER OF THE PRESIDENT.
« OZOLGOSZ FOUND GUH/TY OF MURDER.
Elwtrio'.'elegraph— Copyright— United Press Association. WASHINGTON, Sept, 25. Czolgosz maintains an air of unconcern. Evidence was given that prisoner while in gaol, in the presence of several witnesses, deliberately and unhesitatingly confessed that he had dogged the President for days, seeking an opportunity to shoot him ; that he believed in no form of Government or , marriage relations ; every head of State was a tyrant who ought to be killed. Emma Goldman's teachings had influenced him, but he alone planned the deed, and accepted the responsibility. Mr Lewis, one of the counsel for the defence, declared the prisoner steadfastly refused to aid them. He was entitled to any doubt. If the jury were able to declare that he was an. irresponsible person it would lift from the public mind a great load. The jury returned a verdict of murder in the first degree. The murderer was remanded until Thursday for sentence. Emma Goldman, the Anarchist, has been discharged from custody. ~ {Received Sept. 26, 9.55 a.m.) Mr Lewis informed the press that he refrained from calling witnesses as to insanity, because doctors were prepared to testify that Czolgosz was same.
