Turnbull 2377 Interest seemed to be aroused m the evening, when crowds assembled m the vicinity of the newspaper offices, several thousands congregating m front of the Lyttelton Times building, from which all three candidates returned thanks to their supporters. , [Mr Smith, who is an Independent Liberal, was m all his speeches strongly antagonistic to the Government. Advices state that the result will be close. [Mr Haselden. is the Opposition, candidate, Mr Heslop the Government nominee, and Mr Rimington is running on the Independent ticket.] .
