FEDERATION DISCUSSED. ( Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCK. last night. A meeting of the delegates of the different A. and P. Associations was held to-day, under the auspices of the Canterbury^ A. and P. Association, to consider the 'question of the -federation of New Zealand with Australia. There was a fair attendance. There were several speakers for and against-. Mr T. W. Adams moved that it- was desirable New Zealand should federate with Australia. Au amendment was moved by Mr Studholme, jun., of Ashburton, that the information before the meeting was not sufficient to warrant the expression of any opinion, but calling on the Government to ascertain an what terms the Commonwealth would admit New Zealand; also, ti lay befoi-e the public their estimate of the cost of Federation, and their opinion of how such cost could be raised. Both motion and amendment were rejected? The Hon. W. Rolleston spoke strongly against Federation.
