TOLAGA BAY RACES.

The Club has to be congratulated on a success which is a record. That this shouts be so is gratifying evidence of popular satisfaction with the manner in which the Club manages this sport, and being so heartily encouraged, it is only natural that their efforts" will be redoubled in the future in the interests. We are in a position to state that important improvements are to be instituted this year, the Club being possessed with the laudable ambition of making their course the best on the Coast.. The tote investments show an increase of over £300 on last year's returns, the total for the day being £2017. Such progress has already given rise to the suggestion to in the not far distant future arrange for a two day's meeting. It is interesting to note that the Club has such an aim, and racing men will no doubt note the suggestion with approval The racing' was good throughout, the finishes taking more than a little trouble and skill to separate the leading division as they flashed. by the post with, at tunes, less than a length between them. But Mr Spence was equal to the occasion, and his decisions were received with general satisfaction. Of the starting, too, it is only fair to say a word of praise. Mr E. "Boland had a difficult task before him, but acquitted himself with all the skill of the veteran "Harry" Piper himself, and in each race sent the competitors away in an absolutely level line. Not a boy got the better of him, and the public expressed its delight. in vigorous and hearty applause. The duties of all the other officials were diligently performed, co-operation for the good of the Club being a marked feature of the proceedings. The Club is certain to have a good round surplus jon the meeting, and deserves it. Following are the concluding results: — Uawa Stakes Handicap, of 50 sovs; second horse to receive 5 sovs from the stake. 1\ miles. ' 40 Mr G. At the next turn he had improved his advantage by lengths. Moonraker nearly fell here. Going up the back stretch Moonraker was last, Lady Raven and Witeon neck and neck going up to the leader. But at the far turn Hairtrigger had a lead of a length, and sprinted at Jones's call, having about three lengths to the good entering the straight. Moonraker came np on the inside, and was soon only a neok behind, Lady Raven and Wilson coming fast on the outside. Jones got a last effort, out of the chestnut as the -post was reached, gaining the judge's verdict by a nose, a head separating second and third. On tote, £302. Div., £6 15s. Time, 2min 18sec.
