Messrs. Williams and Kettle report on their sale held at Matawhero yesterday : "There was a good demand for sheep; but buyers were slow to bid under the hammer. Lines passed under the hammer were all disposed of* privately afterwards, and invariably succeeded ' m fetching prices sometimes considerably m -excess of those at which bidding under the hammer stopped. In point of price sheep were a little easier m some -lines, but on the whole the rates of last sale were well maintained. The fact of the turnip crop being available nextmonth will, as mentioned m your issue of yesterday, cause a brisk demand for lambs and will also tend to facilitate the sale of wethers. The sale showed that cattle are undoubtedly oh the rise still, and theTarious lines • offered evoked a very spirited demand. Prices were better than we have m most cases experienced this .season, one line , of 18-month steers fetching a price that constituted a distinct record for the yards. One or two small lines of porkers sold at satisfactory, prices." In addition to the items published m yesterday's issue,- the . following sales of sbeep wei» effected by Messrs. Williams and Kettle privately: 239 f.&. ewes, which passed at ss, to Barron Bros, a* 6s ; 400 2 and 4-tooth wethers; McAli; cljael and McLaurin, 10s;, 177 good 2-" tooth Lincoln ewes, 13s, R. C. Aliller; 214 f.m. ewes, McLaurin, 7s 9d; 146 Shropshire lambs bred by Mr Hood, 7s, G. Porter. In cattle the following sales were effected: Two fat cows, £7 10s, Caesar; 3 ditto, £6 2s 6d, Howarth; 3 steers, £5 95, . Caesar ; 8 bullocks, £5 10s, Knight; 5 steers, £4 10s, R. Sherratt; 3 forward cows, £4 12s 6d, Caesar ; 7 steers, £6, G. Campbell ; 2 cows, £3 17s 6d, Knight ; 4 bullocks, £5 7s 6d, AlcKenzie; 3 2-year steers, £4 ss, E.. Hutchison;' 5 bullocks, £5 :ss, A..
