Messrs. Williams and Kettle report on their sale held at Matawhero yesterday : "There was a good demand for sheep; but buyers were slow to bid under the hammer. Lines passed under the hammer were all disposed of* privately afterwards, and invariably succeeded ' m fetching prices sometimes considerably m -excess of those at which bidding under the hammer stopped. In point of price sheep were a little easier m some -lines, but on the whole the rates of last sale were well maintained. The fact of the turnip crop being available nextmonth will, as mentioned m your issue of yesterday, cause a brisk demand for lambs and will also tend to facilitate the sale of wethers. The sale showed that cattle are undoubtedly oh the rise still, and theTarious lines • offered evoked a very spirited demand. Prices were better than we have m most cases experienced this .season, one line , of 18-month steers fetching a price that constituted a distinct record for the yards. One or two small lines of porkers sold at satisfactory, prices." In addition to the items published m yesterday's issue,- the . following sales of sbeep wei» effected by Messrs.
