RESULTS OF THE CENSUS.

The census taken m India gives l the population at 294,000,000, despite excessive declines m the native States, owing to visitations of famine and plague. [The population of India at the last census m 1891 was given as 287,223,431. The wotk of collecting the census 98 recently described m these columns is one presenting great difficulties, and of enormous magnitude.]
