THE BAND CONTEST.

-(Per Press Association.) ■ WANGANUI, last night. . The North Island Band Contest opened here to-day. In the afternoon the visitors were entertained at a garden party, which was practically spoilt by rain. In the evening the quartette, and B flat cornet solo competitions were proceeded with. The former resulted : Wanganui (123 pointe) 1, Woodville (105 points) 2, .Woodville No. 2 (94- points) 3. The solo competitions ore not yet. concluded. WANGANUI, this day* The Band Contest was continued tuis morning. There were seven competitors. The E Flat basses were won-" by T. Gay, Wangahui, 82 pointe; F. Signal, Wanganui, 76 ; 3. Geary, Petone, 70. The B Flat basses, three competitors, . resulted:- G. Aldfidge, Masterton, 64 pointfi ; E. Holden, Pflmerston, 61 : S. Geary, Petone, 55. !■>
