The Union Co.'s b.B. Mararoa (Captaiii Phillips) arrived from Sydney and Auckland at 1 o'clock this afternoon, bringing the following passengers for thiß port :— Intercolonial: Mesdames DeLisle and MoNamara and two children ; Mr Thomas. Coastal: Mesdames Muir, Watt, and Smith; Misses Watt Binn.. Palmer, and Smith; Messrs Smith. Beere, Koeller, Pyke, Muir, O'Dyer, McCarthy, Thomas, and Master Muir. The Mararoa leaves for the South this evening, the last launch leaving the vfharf at 8 o'clock. The new steamer Star of Australia, flying the flag of.the Tyser line, arrives from London and Australia this afternoon. The new vessel is a Bplendid type of the .modern largo cargo-carriers engaged in the New Zealand -London trade, and is thoroughly equipped in all departments, everything about the vessel being of the moat up-to-date oharacter. The steamer has ft cargo-carryiDg capacity of 10,000 ■tons, there being room for 100,000 carcases of frozen muttou and 15,000 bales of wool. The Star of Australia belongs to Messrs John Corry and Co., of London, and was speoially designed and buile for the trade, her construction having been superintended by Captain John Simpson anil Mr A. Macdonald (chief eugiueer), who are intimately acquainted with the requirements of the trade. Two other steamers of a similar size and oharacter are now in course of construction, one for MWBrsJohn Corry and Co. aw! the other for Messrs Tyser. --■ at this port; " • - The Union Co.'s s.b. Te Anau will leave -Napier at 8 o'clock this eveuing, aud '^arrives here to-morrow morning. She will be despatched for Auckland at 7 a.m., the first and last launch leaving the shore at ft on The Huddart-Parker Co.'s s.s. Elingamite arrives from Southern ports on Saturday morning, and leaves for Auckland and Sydney at 8 a.m. • . The Union Co.'s s.s. Omapere is at Tuparoa loading wool, and is expected to reach here with a full load on Saturday next. The B.S. Waihi leaves for Tolago and Waipare to-morrow morning.
