WHAT THE COLONIES ARE DOING.
Sydney, Deo. 19. The. Assembly has voted £60,000 to defray the cost of the second contingent which is being.deapdtched to South Africa. The offer of the A battery of artillery, the colony's crack corps, has been accepted. Inclusive of a medical corps, New Sonth Wales Bends five hundred men. The steamers Southern Cross, Mgori King, Warrigal, and Surrey have been secured as transports. > (Received Dec. 20, t0.5 a.m.) y Deo, 20.— The Government are arranging f to Bend the A battery by train to .Melbourne to catch the steamer Dovon. The others will get away betweeu January Ist and 10th. , . , t , Numbers of horses are being donated. The Council agreed to sending troops to the Transvaal without disoussion aud with cheers. (Received Dec. 20, 12.10 p.m.) Mr Lyne has cabled to Mr Chamberlain : The Austxalian colonies offer the Imperial Government about 1000 mounted infantry. New South Wales is also sending a battery and half a field hospital. The battery leaves before the end of the year, and the balance about the first week in January. Brisbane, Dee. 19. The Charters Towers Stock Exehauge has sent £300 for a second contingent. (Received Dec. 20, 9.12 a.m.) Dec. 20.— Mr Philpa gave notice of motion in favor of sending 160 officers and men to the Transvaal. Adelaxdk Dec. 20. The Council adopted a motion to send a second contingent with cheers. (Received Deo. 20, 10.5 a.m.) The Assembly unanimously agreed to Bend troops. The Premier estimated the cost would be about £13,000. Colonel Gordou, the Commandant, goe to South Africa as ft special officer. Tho Government have offered his services to the other colonies. Melbourne, Dee. 20. A number of Mr Chirnside's horses were s found unsuitable. He gave a substantial cheque with which to buy others.
