* A iiosT successful mcetipu' was again held , by the above. Club on Fiiilay last, some ■ 500 people being present. The course was 1 in grand order and the racing above the 1 average, euch contest being fmiulit r.ut. to the bitter end. Mr Edward Dovcry, as >' h.w.liuapijrr, was exlicmely successful in > bringing the hon.es together. In nearly - every event a close finish bore out. his estimate of the merits of the contesting horses. Mr Hunter, ;is secretary, left no stone unturned to make the meeting niosl I ' enjovablc to all engaged in the serious ] i business of racing. Mr Hinlon, as starter, fairly astonished the numerous visitors from Gisborne by the masterly way he despatched his fields, the horses moving • off as if despatched by machinery, and Mi c Hinlon hud frequently to bow to the loud 1; ulapuiri; that announced the public > appreciiition of his gaud starts.
