♦ [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON. To-day. The hearing of the pension claims began to-day. At the outset a difficulty was revealed which threatens to injuriously affect a large proportion of the claims. Although the Act enjoins Government servants to help claimants in every way, the Registrar-General does not read this to apply to h's Department, and refuses certificates without a fee. Mr Kenny, S.M., said he had hoped this Department woulrt have been of great assistance and recommended applicants to briny the matter before the Minister. Up to lunch only sixteen claims had been heard, and several of these were postponed for evidence as to age or character. In nearly every case there was a difficulty about proving the age. AUCKLAND, To-day. The Talisman Extended Mine has been purchased by the New Zealand Talisman Company for 2500 shares. The Bootmakers' Union declined toaecopt the Conciliation Board's award. The matter goes to the Arbitration Court, and the papers have been forwarded to Judge Edwards for him to fix a date for the ingCHRISTCHURCH. To-day. Applications for the managership of the Farmers' Co-operative Association were considered oh Saturday. It was decided not to make any appointments.
