The trial of a former United States Consul, .Mr Moore, who is charged with blackmailing a hotelkee|jcr through Mis .Moore, is attracting widespread attention. Tt is alleged hv the hoU'lkceper tli.it he w.i- engaged in a game of cards in the hotel with Mrs Moore when her husband rushed in, drew a revolver, and compelled the holulkccper to .-ign a note for ."HlUOdols. The hotelkeeper afterward* repudiated the note, and had Mr Moore arrested on a charge of blackmail. The gicat feature of the case is the ravishing beauty of Mrs Moore, who is a co-defendant. I'earing lh.it she would hypnotise the jury with her marvellously beautiful eyes, tlie judge compelled her to sit in a corner where she could not look at the jurors. The secret of her beauty is a tiny speck at the centre of her pupil giving her a strange power over men. The court-room was bc-ieged by curious crowds eager lo behold her.
