THE SALVAGE EXPEDITION.
May good luck go with the Coralie. The attempt that is about to be made to recover the valuable effects from the wreck of the Tasmania, which was sunk off Table Cape on July 29th, 1897, and, if the condition .of the vessel is favorable, to raise her, is highly enterprising, and the people who are risking time and money upon it deserve to be rewarded for their pluck. The fact that the promoters, with one exception, are local men gives special interest to the expedition, and it would be a splendid achievement for Gisborne if they should have the rich reward of seeing the Tasmania afloat again and at anchor in Poverty Bay. The present trip is being undertaken chiefly with the object of ascertaining the condition of the vessel, and if the condition is favorable the people interested are very sanguine as to the result of their very simple and practical scheme. It is a thousand pities that 6uch a fine vessel, favorite with all who travelled in her, should be lying at the bottom of the sea, sixteen fathoms deep, and the salvage operators if they succeed will not. only earn congratulations from far and wide, but they will have achieved a reputation for their process that will make it valuable all the world over.
