TECHNICAL INSTRUCTION.

TECHNICAL SCHOOLS INSTRUCTION SOCIETY. A meeting of the provisional Committee of the Technical Schools Instruction Society was held last night, when the sub-Committee appoiuted for tho purpose presented the draft syllabus which they hud drawn out. After full consideration and several amendments had been made, it waa decided to adopt the syllabus and recommend it to the meeting called for Tuesday night. The syllabus as amended is as follows : — 1. The name of the Society shall be " Tho Gisborne Technical Instruction Society." 2. The Society ia formed for the purpose of establishing classes under the provisions of the Manual and Technical Instruction Act 1895, and of affiliating with kindred societies in Great Britain and elsewhere. 3. Any person may become a member of the Society for the current year on payment of a subscription of not less than 53. A donation of £5 or upwards shall entitle the donor to life membership and to all the privileges ot membership, 4. The Society shall bo managed by a committee of 12 membets (5 to foim a quotum), three members La retire annually by rotation, Tuut to be eligible for re-olection. 5. The committee shall elect annually us own chairman, secretary and treasurer, and may fill up extraordinary vacancies occurring during the year by appointment of members of the Society, who shall retire in the same order of rotation as their predecessors in office. 6. Tho annual meeting shall be held in the month of March in each year, to receive report, to elect committeemen, and to transact other business. 7. The annual subscription shall be due and payable on March Ist in each year, and no person shall be deemed to be a member of the Society unless the subscription for the then current year shall bs paid. 8. The Society's classes shall he open to all persons above the age of 14 years, who have paid the subscription fees, and pledged themselves to obey the rules of the Society . 9. The constitution of the Society may be altered only at any general meeting and after not less than 14 days' notice of the proposed alteration has been given to the secretary and duly advertised. The subjects recommended as suitable for a preliminary syllabus are : — Building constiuction, practical carpentry, shorthand, freehand drawing, photography, bookkeeping, mechanics, and mathematics. It is to be understood that this syllabuß is merely suggestive and that the cunyiDg out of it depends upon teachers and pupils being forthcoming. It is further the intention ot the Society to form olaaaes as need arises in subjects not included in the above list.
