HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.

j The monthly meeting of the Hospital j Trustees was held last night, when there s . were present Messrs Nolan (Chairman), " Lucas, Harding, Kennedy, and Finn. The monthly report showed that there were 15 cases in the hospital remaining from last month, six new patients had been admitted, making a total for the . month of 21 cases. During the same time 10 had been discharged, and there ' had been two deaths, leaving nine patients at present in the wards. The treasurer's report showed that the month was commenced with a credit balance of LlB7 12s 3d. The payment! during the month amounted to L9B 3s lid. The receipts brought the credit ! balance up to L 122 18s lid, against which . the accounts for presentation at the meet- ! ing amounted to Ll2O, which included the doctor's salaiy. No contributions had • yet been received, but at next meeting | the requisitions would be paid. They had been ■working on their own funds for the : last three months. A return was presented showing that 40 fever cases had been received into the i hospital since the beginning of the year, , the first having come in on January 24th. Of these 27 were from the borough and ' 13 from the country. Five deaths had occurred and 35 were discharged as being well. It was pointed out that the majority of the patients who had died in the wards had been beyond recovery when they were received, and also that two of the patients I set down as being from the 'borough had only been in Gisborne for a few days previous to developing typhoid symptoms. The Visiting Committee's report was read, showing that the necessary work in connection with the buildings and grounds had been carried out in a satisfactory manner. The Hospital being nearly empty the Matron had requested that the men's ward should be thoroughly washed down and disinfected, and the extra expense of painting being small the Visiting Committee, with the concurrence of the Chairman, had arranged with Mr T. Morrison to do the whole work for L 9 12s. The work had been completed on the previous day. Several works of a minor nature were recommended. The report was adopted, and the works recommended ordered to be carried out. Accounts amounting to Ll2O were passed for payment. TENDERS. The following tenders for the erection of a fence were received : -W. O. Skeet L 6 12s 6d per chain, and 10s per chain extra for 6 x 4 posts and caps ; Nield and Tate L 7 10s and LI 19s extra ; T. Stafford L 8 9s 6d and LI extra ; W. Morrison L 8 and L 2 extra. It was resolved that W. O. Skoet's tender of L 6 129 6d a chain fencing, and 10s per chain extra for 6 x 4 posts and caps be accepted. The length of the fence to be erected is six chains. Messrs Harding and Nolan were appointed a Visiting Committee for tho ensuing month, and were instructed to report to the next meeting on the necessity of painting the outside and the remaining portions of the inside of the hospital buildings.
