It ia rumored that the police authorities intend to take action in regard to betting shops, and that evidence has already been obtained to warrant legal proceedings. DUNEDIN, To-day. The Dunedin Jockey Clab has purchased a property for a new racecourse immediately opposite and close to the Wingatui railway station. .It contains 135 acres. The oourse will be a mile and a quarter in ciroumferenca and a chain and a half wide, with two straights of a quarter of a mile each. Thirty-three carters of Dunedin have presented ex - Treasurer Ward with an address, expressing their sincere sympathy and conviction that ho would come out all right in the end, despite the unscrupulous efforts of private and political enemies. NELSON, To-day. Walter Beattie Thompson, of Motupiko, settler, was charged at the Police Court on the information of William T. Coleman, a neighbor, with stealing sheep. He has been committed for trial. In the Supreme Court Mr Hocking moved for the appointment of Mr Cook, of Cook and Gray, as a provisional liquidator of the Ward Farmer's Association till July 14th, wheu a winding-up petition will be presented, As' there was no opposition, the motion waa granted. In the matter of bottle licenses the Judge granted a mandatnuß calling on the City Licensing Bench to grant bottle licensee, The committee offered no opposition.
