County Councils' Conference.

Wellington, last night. The Counties Conference met this morning. Forty delegates were present. Mr Mazendie, of the Hutt, was re-elected president ; Messrs Fraser, and Macmillan, vice-presidents ; Messrs Kebbell, Monkhouse, Von Reden, Laing, Booth, Buick, Berd, an executive ; Mr Field, treasurer ; and Mr Bolton, auditor. The report and balanse-aheet were adopted. The latter showed a credit balance of £64 8s 3d. The following resolutions were lost : Proposed by Mr Buick " that the rules be altered to read where the Counties Act is suspended each Road Board with a valuation exceeding £200,000 be deemed a County Council under Lhis association." Proposed by Mr Kebbell " that alterations in constitution must be first considered by the executive committee and deemed carried if supportedby two-thirds of those present when put to tbe conference. Proposed by Mr Hislop : "That Government be asked to reserve a full width of five ' chains and grass the same in all blocks offered." A motion by Mr Dunlop was oarrid that due provision be made for adequate reserves in Government lands open for selection. Ac the afternoon sitting the Local Government Bill was under review. The principle of the measure was fully discussed, there being an almost unanimous opposition to it, but the details will be considered tomorrow. To-day. — The Counties Conference is still engaged going through the Local Government Bill.
