COMMERCIAL.

THE STOCK SALES.

Mr. Lan S. Simson, acting on behalf of the P.B, Farmers' Association, reports having, in conjunction with the associated auctioneers, held their monthly stock sale at the Matawhero yards yesterday. It was pleasing to notice that tho attendance was again large and representative, at one time fully 200 people being about the yards. A very limited number of cattle was yarded, but evidently it was quite enough for the requirements, It is to be regretted that the demand for cattle is almost at a minimum, and It is to be hoped that before long the demand will increase sufficiently to induce vendors to bring their cattle for sale. The demand for good milch cows was fairly good but very few were on offer by auction. About 3000 sheep were yarded, principally store wethers. Out of this number the Association yarded 1300, and sold all under the hammer with the exception of one small line of 2-tooth wethers which did not realise the vendor's reserve. The Association sales were as follows :— 74 wethers at 6s 10d, 100 Romney cross wethers at 7s 2d, 315 Lincoln cross wethers at 8s lOd, 100 Lincoln cross wethers at 9s 6d, 600 Romney cross wethers at 7b, and 400 Merino and croasbreds, broken mouth, from 2s to 2s 3d. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Aoenoi Co report as follows on their live stock sale at Matawhero yesterday : — The attendance was fairly up to the average. Cattle : Only a few were yarded, and theße did not find buyers. It is not anticipated that there will be much demand until the spring. Sheep : A large number were yarded, and moat lots found buyers. We sold 270 half-bred wethers, iin good condition, at Bs, and longwool sore wethers at 9s 3d. Messrs Williams and Ketjxe Limited report holding their monthly sale of live stock at the Matawhero yardß yesterday. There was a large entry of sheep, principally wethers, and fortunately very few cattle, as for this latter class of stock the market in the meantime haa dropped to pieces. There was a good attendance of buyers, but sheep hardly maintained the prices realised at our last sale. Fat long woolled wethers made from, 10s to 10s Gd, store wethers 7s 9d to 93 3d, close woolled wethers 6s 6d to 7s 6d, fat long woolled ewes to 8s 9d, ewes in lamb 4a 3d to 6s sd, hoggetts 3a 6d, 5s 6d to 6s 6d for heavy woolled. Pigs : Weanera 4s 9d to 7s. There was literally no demand for 'cattle, the entire entry going out unsold. Mr, G. R. Wyllie reports having held Mb usual monthly sale of Btock at the Matawhero yards yesterday. Prices for all cattle offered were low, hardly- any that, were offered being sold. All good lots of wethers fetched fair prices. 2 and 4-tooth wethers 7s 3d to 9s, fat wethers 10a 6d, old ewes 4s 6d.
