CABINET CHANGES.

RE-ARRANGEMENT OF PORTFOLIOS. (Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, to-day. It is understood that Mr Seddon will take charge of all the portfolios previously held by Mr Ward, aud that the Premier will distribute his present portfolios among his colleagues. The Hon. Mr Walker will in all . likelihood be appointed Minister of Education and Colonial Treasurer, and will be paid a salary.

Mr J. G. Scott, formerly manager of the Bank of New Zealand, Woodville and Palmerston North, leaves next week for Fiji. Miss Sievwright, of Dunedin, who has been studying for three years with Madame Marchesi, will shortly make her debut in London. Ex-Detectivo Kirby was firab brought into notice by his successful arrest of Thomas Hall, the Timaru prisoner in 1886. The manner in which he worked up tho case was so praiseworthy that the late Mr J ustico Johnson designated him the smartest officer in the New Zealand detective force.
