An old man named C. F. Rolls has been found dead on the road at Culverden. The case is one of suicide. In a letter Rolls stated his intention to commit suicide if be found his means exhausted. He was a coloaist of 47 years' standing, and observation had convinced him that a person of bis age had no business to live nowadays in the struggle for existence unless he could stoop to charitable aid. A verdict of suicide whilst temporarily insane was returned. Mr Edward Jerwyn Matthews, of Trinity Hall, Cambridge, haß been appointed professor of English literature at Canterbury college. At a meetiDg of the City Council ib was reported that the overdraft, which has exceeded £3000 for several years, had been reduced to £935. DUNEDIN, To-day.
