London, Jan. 25. A leading Queensland firm is arranging to establish meat extract works in the vicinity of the Gulf of Carpentaria. A large quantity of the Gulf of Siams' frozen meat is being distributed among charities by the Lord Mayor. At the wool sales there is keen competition with a tendency to advance. The present series close on the 29th. Jan. 26. — The Australasian Mortgage and Agency Company shows a profit for the year of £39,898. It pays a dividend on preference shares, the balance being carried forward. The English wheat market has an upward tendency. The Continental is advancing, and the American has a general rising tendency. At the tallow sales 1400 casks were offered, 1325 being sold. Medium mutton sold at 22a, medium beef at 20s. Opossum skins aro in active demand, and show an advance of 15 per cent. The greater portion of the beef by the Duke of Buckingham was mildewed. A London firm has contracted with Mr Young, of South Australia, for an unlimited supply of honey. The wool sales continuo firm and unchanged. A total of 131,800 bales has been catalogued up to date and 126,600 sold. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received the following commercial cablegram, dated London, January 25 : — Tallow: Market^ better, New Zealand fine mutton tallow being worth 22s Gil per cwt. , good beef 20s 9<l. Frozen meat: Mutton market dull; Canterbury is worth 3^d per Ib.
