The Heat Wave.
Sydney, Jan. 24. After an oppressive day a cool southerly to-night brought up thunder and heavy rain. The southern districts report that good rains have fallen, while the western districts say the heat has not abated. Jan. 25.— A great fall in the temperature was reported last night in the Western districts. The first vows was from Wilcannia at four o clock when a terrific dust storm made the aim invisible for first time for weeks. Bourke experienced a great downpour of rain an hour later. The gratitude of the inhabitants was unbounded, and many were actually de ighted in getting drenched to the skin. -Last week 43 deaths were recorded in Parratnatta and Granville suburbs as the result of excessive heat,
