Melbourne, Jan. 231 This has been the hottest day in the city for years. The thermometer in the city showed 108 in the shade, and at the Observatory 112. A blinding dust storm was experienced in the city this afternoon, bub it was followed in the evening by rain, which cooled th» atmosphere. , Bkisbane, Jan. 23. Many deaths have taken place at Thar* gonnndah from the intense heat. Adelaide, Jan. 23. Great heat prevails in the north, where several deaths have occurred.
