The "Wellington Anniversary-

Wellington, last night. A strong north-westerly wind, which blew all day, interfered considerably with the enjoyment of the holiday which waa observed to celebrate the fifty-sixth anniversary of Wellington province. The principal attraction in town was the annual regatta of the Port Nicholson Yacht Club, but the fixture did not create so much interest as usual, owing to the fact that competitors did not include any boats from other parts. A heavy sea running in the harbor gave the smaller craft a rough time of it. The Waitangi won the first-class yacht race by fifty-five minutes, the Maritana being aecond. The Isca carried off the second-class event, with the Ronda second, and the Jennie Reid had an easy win in the third-class race. A large number of excursionists travelled by rail and harbor I steamers.
