THE WOOL SALES. Londok, Jan. 20. At the wool sales competition continues spirited, with prices hardening. At the Bradford wool sales the prices realised were the highest of the series, many lots being disposed of at a slight advantage on last top rates. Sydney, Jan. 21. At the half-yearly meeting of the City Bank the nett profit was shown to be £10,000, to which must be added £8,080 from the previous half-year. A dividend of 5 per cent, was declared, and a sum of £8,080 carried forward. The chairman, in bis address, stated nothing special had occurred during the past six months. The directors were actine cautiously, and the business was quietly improving. There were prospects of a considerable amount of new business during tho coming half-year. Wheat is being held back, some sales were reported at 4s 2d, bub afterwards were denied, there is no disposition to sell; flour, roller £9 10s ; oats, dull, 2s 3d to 2s 4d; barley, malting 3s Gd to 4s 3d ; bran and pollard, Is. Wellington, to-day. Tho Wellington Gas Company has declared an interim dividend of 5 per cent., making 10 per cent, for the year. The second wool Bale was held to-day 2963 biles being catalogued by Hunter and Nolau, Buckl'iud and t^'ona, Bimiey, and the Loan Mercantile.
