THE LOSS OF THE S.S. CATTERTHUN.
Sydney, August 12. The inquest on the victims of the Catterthun disaster has began at Forater. Lanfear, in his evidence, stated he was in oharge at the iime of the vessel Btrikins;, the captain being in the chart room. He saw i the Seal light, but declined to give the course hewasstoering. Hedid not seethegreenlight, which would indicate danger. He refused to say whether he altered the course during his watch, or what position the Seal light bore at the time the vessel struck. JTuly 13.— The evidence at the inqueat showed that the weather was very thick. When the relief tug arrived on the scene another Chiuaman's body waa recovered aud was buried at sea. The Otagd Daily Times says tliat the people are beginning to see as may be concluded from a recent article of Mr Kier Hardies in the" Nineteenth Century"— that, if an aristocracy of ranli were to pass away, an aristocracy of money would take its place, and that this would be infinitely worse from the position of the working classes.
