NEW SOUTH WALES ELECTIONS.
Sydney, Jaly 26. Messrs Levien and Wheeler have been elected for Quirindi and Northumberland, the latter being a Ministerial gain. This, however, does not alter the' position, of parties as already given. Recounts will be necessary at Tumut and Botany: ' Ttie nine* teen Labor members are all pledged 'to the Labor platform, and several others of those elected posed as supporters of it, but fiscal considerations, will be stronger -than the I ties, and they will probably cast in their lot with the Freetraders or Protectionists. July 27.— The Age doubts whether New: South Wales has finally declared for Free'trade, because the members of the Labor party are at Issue on the fiscal question* It attributes Sir H. Parkes' defeat; to bis being regarded as a political humbug/ while Sir G. K. Dibba' fall was on account of his opportunism. Ottawa* Jttiy 26* The Globe, referring to tile New Sooth Wales elections, says the result is one of the signs of a general recurrence to national fißcal views, and. nothing can nowbe heard of Impel ial Customs Union.
