Lake Ellesmere has been freely running to the sea during the last two days, and there is every prospect of the level being much reduced and relief afforded to the unfortunate lake flat, settlers, whose land has been under water for some time. Obituary: Hon. Ernest Gray, aged 62. He had retired from public life for some time. ■ AUCKLAND, Saturday The barque Grasmere, which left Kaipara on the 28th June for Sydney, put into Whangaroa yesterday short of provisions". " She was unable to get away from the New Zealand coast owing to the strong prevailing westerlies, and the provisions running low. she put into .Whangaroa, and after receiving supplies, sailed again to-day for Sydney.
