The Auckland Seat.
The N.Z. Herald of Thursday says :— there are now four candidates in the field to conteat the seat in the House of Representatives, for Auckland city, rendered vacant by the retirement of Sir George Grey— Mr E. Monk, who consented yesterday to Btand ; Mr J. M. Shera, who comes forward as an Independent; Mr Fawcua, the Labor candidate ; and Mr T. Thompson, Mr Seddon's nominee. There is' thus every prospect of a lively fight. Mr Monk comes forward in response to an influentially signed public requisition and not, as has been repeatedly and erroneously stated, as the candidate of the National Association. Thafc body does not select candidates; its main function beiug educational. Mr Shera, an old member, was hard at work yesterday, and has already secured a committee room over the shop of Mr Bennett, Queen-street. Mr Fawcus arrived from Wellington yesterday, and at once busied himself with electoral matters, showing no sign of giving way to Mr Thompson,
