Fire at Covent Garden.
London, June 9,
During the performance .of Faust at Covent Garden the scenery caught fire, and a rush immediately took place for the door. The majority of the audience, however, bad the sense to remain in their seats. The opera was temporarily stopped, and Madame Melba appeared in front of the curtain in her Marguerite costume, and secured the attention of the spectators, in order to prevent the panic spreading. Her coolneas was loudly applauded.
