THE RAILWAY COMMISSIONERS

WHAT WILL BECOME OF THEIR SPECULATIONS. (Parliamentary Reporter. Wellington, to-day. What will be the fate of the Railway Commissioners in the event of the Government Railway Bill not being passed into law thia session, is a question causing considerable- discussion, from the fact that their term of office expires early next year. All sorts of surmises are being indulged in, and amongst other guesses it is said that Mr Seddon will be appointed Chief Commissioner, and will have the co-operation of Messrs McKerrow and Hannay. This is an opinion of the veriest moonshine, though it is the opinion entertained by a section of the Labor members, whilst Aucklanders count on Mr Vaile's appointment Without a pretence of any knowledge of what is to be the outcome, I incline to the belief that Government will not attempt any replacement of the Commissioners until the country has settled whether the railways are to be continued to be managed on political lines. If this view be correct, " the wicked three," as Mr Fish irreverently termed Messrs Maxwell, McKerrow, and Hannay, will have to be temporarily re-appointed till tho new Parliament assembles. That would be the most satisfactory, and to my mind the most feasible solution of the difficulty.
