The following matters referring to this district were dealt with by the Boird at their meeting on Tuesday : — Gisborne wanted picket fence painted, which raised a little discussion on Committee's funds. Mr Gilberd said it was advisable to appoint n committee to go through all requests from School Committees. Many of the Committees spent their funds in necessary work, and had nothing left for repairs. He instanced the position of the Napier school. Something would have to be dono, as they could not go on as at present. It was stated that if the grants were made larger, the teachers' salaries would have to be reduced. Gisborne matter deferred for consideration. Gisborne wanted a High School room, a request which was outside the Board's department. The same asked that examination papers, after bfiing marked, might be sent to Mr Bright. Ormond and Patutahi made similar applications. The requests were agreed to, papers to be Rent for one month, to apply to whole of Gisborne district. — Makauri was granted pupil teacher. — The Arai required eightyone yards fencing, cost £10 ; approved. — The Inspector was at present examining the Napier schools, which he expected to finish on Friday, 30th iust. The coast schools to the north extending to Port Awanui, including the Wairoa and Poverty Bay districts would next receive attetition.
