A correspondent writes : — The Poverty Bay Park Steepe chase course has now been completed, and will assuredly give satisfaction to all those who delight in witnessing jumping races. No effort or outlay has been spared to render the course an excellent one, and breeders and owners will be glad thai such a testing ground is available. The district has in years gone by, sent away horses which in other places have proved merit, and in fact it was only when too late in many instances that it was discovered how many cross-country flyers were figuring here on the flat or over the small sticks who could give accounts of themselves on the stiffest steeplechase courses elsewhere. The course as i\ow laid out, has in addition to the temporary jumps a double and hurdles — the former standing in front of the grandstand two brush fVnces — post and rail, water jump, and sod wall — these latter of a permanent nature. The course is for a portion of the distance altogether away from the present track and has the advantage that the taking of every obstacle can be viewed from the grandstand. Another great advantage is that there is a fair run to each of the junap9, none being placed at the bends, thus greatly reducing the risk of accidents. It may not be out of place to mention that as the management is in experienced hands, the public may feel assured of a capital day's sport on July 14th. Nomina tions close on Monday evening next, 23rd, at the Argyll hotel with Mr M. G. Nasmith, the Secretary.
