The International Miners' Congress has resolved to prepare the ground for an international strike, in the event of Parliament refusing to legalise the eight hours scheme. The Congress has adopted an amendment shortening the hours which underground men have to work. The Rev. Thomas Spurgeon has arrived in London from New Zealand, and it is arranged that he shall occupy the Tabor* nacle for three months. A Lancashire, Derbyshire, and East Coast Railway Company, with a capital of tive millions, has been established. The Premier of New South Wales, in his letter to the Economist, reiterates that the colony which is administered by his Government has no intention of continuing borrowiug, or of floating a loan at the present. The filly Daydream and the hunter Selim, purchased in New Zealand by Captain Guthrie, who wa? aide-de-camp to Lord Onslow, have arrived safely. Thomas Neill, an American, has been arrested on a charge of attempting to levy blackmail on Dr Harper in connection with the poisoning of two girls in Stamford street, Lambeth, . recently. The police hint that startling revelations are likely to be brought out, proving that there has been systematic poisoning of girls, and that there were seven or eight victims. Mr T. A. Hedge, of the North and Waverley Road Bicycle Club, has completed a journey between Lands End and John o 1 Groats, a distance of 874 miles, in 4 days 4 minutes, beating the record of Mr G. P. Mills (4 days 11 hours 17 minutes) by over eleven hours. Prince Ferdinand, of Bulgaria, who is on a visit to London, has been visited by the Prince of Wales and entertained at lunch by the Lord Mayor. Only one ballot was taken at the Republican Convention in the election of a nominee for the Presidency. Mr Harrison obtained 538 votes, Mr J. G. Blame and Major McKinley each 182, Mr Reed 4, and Mr Lincoln 1. An indescribable scene of wild excitement greeted the result. The English press is elated at Mr Elaine's rout, and at getting his so called master move defeated. The result of the election has also been well received in the Dominion of Canada. Mr Whitelaw Keed, formerly United Stales Minister in Paris, has unanimously been nominated for the position of Vice-President. The latest intelligence from Venezuela states that the rebels are making steady progress in engagements with the President's forces. Herat, Jnne 11. A serious revolt has broken out at Hagura- and the Ameer his despatched 10,000 troops to suppress it.

During the last two or three months several girls have been poisoned in London under mysterious circumstances, and the police believe they have at last got a clue to the murderer.
