The course is as usual, two miles ; starting ou the Taruheru, at the residence of Mr C. A. BeLautour, and finishing at the club's shed. Last year at Auckland our men were victorious, and also succeeded in annexing the Maiden Gigs value LlO, starting in a field of nine. The \ tick land crew, therefore, are in a position to fairly guage the strength of our men, and Darriug accidents a very exciting contest maybe expected. The P.8.R.0.'s crew is, undoubtedly the finest the club has ever gob together, and the Auckland representatives may justly feel proud should victory rest with them. By the way, the Auckland crew's stroke is a well-known former Gisborne resident, Mr A. N. Gibbons. The other members of the crew are Stewart (3), Minnet (2), Colebrook (bow). TheP.B.R.O.'s reps are all well-known oarsmen, the crew being placed as follows :— W. Fox (stroke), W. Walters (3), J. Lee (2), A. Sawyer (bow). This crew will average about list 71b, while their opponents are reported to average list. The visitors are bringing their new carvell batswing, built by Norton, of Wellington, while our men will row in a sister boat, the Irene, also built by Norton, from the same model ; so that all things are equal, and the best crew should win. The Poverty Bay colors are jbltt.e; ancj, white, with chocolate sash, aim ' Auckland's, scarlet and black This is the only match the Auckland men will row here, their intended race with the Gisborne Club having fallen through ; and it is unlikely they will meet either of the Napier crews, as time will not permit it, unless they meet on Monday at the regatta. The Napier men are not expected here before Sunday next, though they may probably decide to come by Friday's steamer, in order to see the match with Auckland. "Monday next will be a real gala day in Gisborne, the regatta being the great attraction. The Napier men are entering for all the events on the programme open to them, and three of their best men are •nteringfor the single sculls, champion, and junior. The local entries are expected to be good also. The Garrison Baud will be in attendance, and the steam launch Snark will make excursions following the races at the low charge of half.a-crown, tickets|being available for the whole day. The regatta programme is a splendid one, and good prizes are given for most of the events. The ladies' race is already provoking great interest, and the winners are sure to come in for a big ovation. The first event will be started at 9 a.m., and follow on at intervals of fifteen minutes until noon, when an adjournment of one hour will take place for luncheon. The judge's stand for the gig races will be the steps on the breakwater pier opposite tne lower wharf. This will be the prin cipal point of vantage for viewing the races 4 uPj till noon. In the afternoon a move wut probably be made lower auwn, near to the end of the breakwater, from which a good view of the whaleboat races will be obtainable by those unable to avail themselves of the excursion in the Snark to follow the race. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thurs- . day the annual matches between the Union, Napier, Gisborne, and Povorty ...:isoy Rowing Clubs will take place over 'the usual course, ott the Taruheru River, commencing each day at about 10.30 to suit the tide.
