THE A.J.C. DERBY.

[Per Phess Association— Copyright] (Received Sept. 22, 10.20 a.m.) Sydney, Sept. 21. A.J.C!. DERBY. 1\ mile;. Singapore (Huxley) ... ... 1 Rudolph (Hales) 2 Sydney (Harris) ... ... o Merriment and Knight Templar also started. At the post the betting was 5 to 4 against Merriment, <> to 4 against Rudolph sto 1 against Singapore. On the fall of the Hag, Knight Templar rushed to the front and led the field for a couple of hundred yards, when the favorite assumed the lead, and, sweeping past the stand, was a length clear of the field. Singapore, Knight Templar, Sydney and Rudolph followed in that order. There was little alteration in the positions when the mile had been left behind, but then the field closed up and the favorite was in trouble. Three yards from home the placed horses were past Merriment, Singapore having the advantage by half a length from Sydney, who was between White's candidates. Entering the straight Singapore maintained his advantage and here Hales on Rudolph, a stable companion to the leader, made desperate efforts to get on terms, and although he easily disposed of Sydney he could never get up to Singapore, who won by a length and a half, Merriment last. Time 2mins. 44secs.
