DISASTER IN CANADA.
[Per Press Association. — Copyright.] (Received Sept 22, 10.80 a.m.) Ottawa, Sept. 21. A mass of rock fell at Quebec to-day, burying numerous residences. So far as is known thirteen have been killed, and 100 arc entombed. (Received September '22, 0 p.m.) It is estimated that thousands of tons of rock fell from Dutferin terrace, from a height of 300 feet, destroying seven houses. The debris tilled Champliu street to a depth of 30 feet. Many of the persons who were entombed by the mass of falling stone have been rescued.
Once more those absurd railway rates of ours. Says the Wunganui Herald : — It costs 3s 6d per bale to send ;•. bale of wool over 500 miles from a run in New South Wales by rail to Sydney. In New Zealand it costs 9s 3d for 2C J miles and a Jd per mile for every additional mile. Consequently to send a Inle of wool 500 m !es by rail in New South Wales cost ,'ss Gd ; in New Zealand it costs IDs Bd,
