The following correspondence was read and considered : —From Cook County Council with proposals for expenditure of deferred thirds, etc. The Chairman said there wa.s one thing he did not agree with, and that wat. utilis" ing the revenue accruing from small paying runs for maintenance. It should be devoted to the formation and construction of roads. In the future if a road was required there would be no rates to form it. The practice should be deprecated. He thought these people sbould wait until the ranker went round to his district to take the trees required under his supervision.—Colonel ilerrick said it was often convenient to selectors to grant their request, which the chairman readily recognised. Ultimately the request was granted, the applicant to be informed that the ranger would he round shortly and lie would be expected to point out to him tlie timber he had taken. \V. J. Steele, T. ■). Turner, L. Canon, and 11. Scragg applied to take up land in different parts of the couutry, and their applications were granted. The following applications were made for transfer of perpetual leases : — Brown to Blake, section 14, Patutahi ; Brown to Ingranie, section 113, Patutahi ; Kirk to W. F. Hale, sections 1, 2, nnd 3, suburbs of Uawa. All the applications were approved of by the Board. The selections of the following persons who have land in the Motu (Poverty Bay) district were forfeited on the ground that they were in arrears with their improvements :--J.
