A man named Butterin, who on tlw2lstof March was committed to trial for criminally outraging a. girl who was lodging with him. tinder the most revolting circumstances, was to-day arraigned for the charge before the Supreme Court, and upon a verdict of guilty being returned, was sentenced to death. Wheat (Tuscan) is selling at 4s lid. The I cargo of wheat by the steamer Zealaudia ' from 'Frisco was sold here prior to its shipment, and is to go into consumption on its arrival. The schooner Mary Campbell, with a cargo of railway girdtrs, bound from Clarence River (Grafton) to Melbourne, sprung n leak when off Cape Howe, and was abandoned by the crew. When the latter were picked up by a passing steamer the schooner was rapidly sinking. Mrs Corston, formerly of Auckland, on a charge of bigamy, was to-d.iy ordered to be imprisoned till the rising of the Court. MELBOURNE, Ai-kil 30. A man named Jones was sentenced to death for a criminal assault.
