ORAKEI NATIVE MEETING.

♦ TAIWHANGA TO THE FORE. Auckland, to-day. At the Orukei native meeting a motion was carried recommending that the office of Native Assessors be abolished. Sydney Taiwhoiiga read a letter which he had received from the Private Secretary of Lord Onslow stating that the Governor on the voyage to the colony would consider Taiwhanga's proposals for the colonization of native lands. Mr Howarth, of Wellington, had urged that the Government and House of Representatives should deal with the proposal. A motion approving of Taiwhanga's scheme was agreed to. A number of chiefs have left for their homes.
