THE CHINESE QUESTION.
ANOTHER MANDATE FROM CITW CELESTIALS MUST BE PREPARED TO LEAVE THE COLONY. Wellington, to ihy. The Evening Post says : — "' A few months ago we mentioned that the Chinese in Wellington had received a communication from the Emperor enjoining them not to enter into any business arrangements which would tend to retard their speedy return to the Flowery Lund should a proclamation 'to come hack be issued as the result of the difference of opinion which at present exists between the Australian colonies and the Government at Pel; in on the subject of immigrat'on. We now lo.ua that another official document has just been received by the Celestials of (his district impressing upon them the necessity of bearing in mind tho injunction 'n the ' previous communication, and stating that it i is ({iiite possible they will be called upon to cither return to the land of their birth or remain where they are and cease to be ! regarded as Chinese subjects. A gentleman ! who is taking a deep interest in the move- 1 ments of the Chinese in Wellington informs ' us that since the last communication has 1 conic to hand many of tho men have become < deeply concerned at the position of alTairs, < ;> id are disinclined to enter into new business < arrangements."
