A Bogus Cablegram.
♦ A " WINDFALL" AND COMMITTAL. Auckland, last night. Before the R.M. Court E. Madden, a wellknown solicitor, and E. H. Jagger were charged with having obtained £20 by false pretences from T. Slater, an estate ntent. The evidence showed that the prisoners showed Slater what purported to be a copy of a cable message from a firm of London solicitors asking the whereabouts of Jaeger, who was alleged to have f alien into a legacy of from £12,000 to L14,0:\ A copy of reply stating that Jaeger was in Auckland whs also shown, and on the strength of those documents Slater advanced a loan of L2O. It subsequently transpired that the cable mesBages were bogus. Madden was acquitted »nd Jagger committed for trial.
