Melbourne to-day. The following is a correction of the Cup weights : — Willeroo should be 7st, not 7st '.tlb ; and First Consul 7st lib, not7st. Sydney, to-day. The following are the top weights for the Metropolitan Stakes : — Trenton 9.12, Trident 9.8, Spade Guinea and Arsenal 8.10, Ringmaster 8.8. Napier, to-day. The Napier Park meeting is being held to-day, the attendance being small owing to the inclement weather. The earlier results are : — CORONATION HANDICAP, 100 SO VS. Salisbury 1 Orwell 2 Clyde 3 Div., £6 6a. NAPIER STEEPLECHASE, 200 SOYS. Mangaohane 1 Orient 2 Romeo 3 Div., £4 9s. Politicians who look beneath the mere surface of things are getting interested in an Anglo-American movement which has been silently growing to a power in certain sections of the country. Of late years emigration from England and Canada has assumed vast proportious. Before they come here these Britishers are saturated with Republicanism, and despite the common opinion they nearly all become naturalised, although they are not distinguished for office-seeking. If one keeps ht3 oyes open he will very often read of the establishment of English colonies, throughout the United States. It is said to be a fact that the Maine Legislature was carried for the Republican party at the last election through the solid vote of the English element. In Chicago, also, the English-Canadian vote is courted by politicians of both sides, so large is it. These Englishmen generally respect the Queen, but they believe that the monarchy is doomed to be supplanted by a republic at no distant day ; admire GladBtcne enthusiastically ; approve of Home Rile for Ireland, but detest Fenianism, Socialism, find Anarchism, and almost to a man they are upholders of a protective ißriff.
