SIR G. GREY REFORE HIS CONSTITUENTS.
Auckland, to-day. Sir G. Grey addressed the electors of City East last night, when there was a crowded attendance. He advocated the reduction of expenditure and taxation, and the settlement of the waste lands of the colony aa necessary to rehabilitate the country. He was adverse to Mrßallance's special settlement scheme. He was agreeable to a fair protection of local industries, but not to unqualifled protection unless the manufacturing powers shared tho fruits of their labors with capita!. A resolution expressive of unabated confidence in Sir G. Grey was unanimously
carried.
