DEATH OF A PROMINENT ATHLETE

Chkistchurch, to-day.

W. H. Milton, Secretary of the Canterbury Rugby Union, died last night, aged 29. He had been ill for several weeks, having; had an attack of typhoid fever. Mr Milton was captain of the United Canterbury Cricket Club and of the Canterbury eleven, and led the Ne\f Zealand football team which visited Sydney some years ago.

From Australian papers we learn that Mr I. Churnside has named hia yearling oolt by Musket out of Yaterina Firelock, his yearling filly by Musket out of Onyx Bell, and his yearling filly by Musket out of Maid of Honor, Precedence. Mr Churnside can certainly not be congratulated on the happiness of his nomonolaturt as regarda the Onyx filly.
